ZAMBIA 4X4
WILDLIFE SAFARI

8-22 JUL 2027

ABOUT THIS SAFARI

Zambia is Wilder! During our 3 week recce trip in July 2026, Zambia immediately established itself as the undisputed jewel in the crown of our Southern African 4X4 Wildlife Safaris, which we are now excited to offer as our new flagship 4X4 safari. Zambia is wilder because it is much less developed than its southern neighbours, and as such offers unequalled rewards for those travellers intrepid enough to go and enjoy them. They don't come cheap and they don't come easy, but they are so worth it - the most delightful people, beautiful landscapes and exceptional wildlife encounters, and especially the Big Cats. Compared with Botswana and Namibia, the Zambian national parks and game reserves are virtually devoid of tourists. So much so that during our entire time in Kafue NP, we saw no other self-drivers whatsoever, giving us the privileged feeling of having the entire game reserve to ourselves. Our Big Cat encounters (these were protracted experiences, not just sightings), which included Leopards, Lions and Cheetahs in all 3 national parks, were truly out of this world and really left us in awe. In addition to the national parks of Kafue, South Luangwa and Lower Zambezi, the unbeatable itinerary we have curated also includes a fabulous game-viewing Boat Cruise on the Mighty Zambezi as well as an excursion to Vic Falls (see videos below). Our route starts in Kasane from where we enter Zambia via the Kazungula bridge and make our way to Livingstone. We then make a clockwise circuit of the country, travelling north up to and then through Kafue NP, eastwards to South Luangwa NP, before returning south to Lower Zambezi NP, whereafter we conclude in Livingstone and back to Kasane where we end. This is a camping-based trip, sleeping in roof-tents on vehicles provided. Fully catered as always, featuring our legendary South African bush braai’s! (a BBQ over Mopane wood coals). Join us and come venture ever deeper into the real wilds of Africa!

As the guide, my African heritage benefits my clients - I spent the first 20 years of my life in Southern Africa, including 2 years as a Counter Insurgency Ops Medic in Ovamboland, so I speak the local languages, and I am familiar with the local customs and cultures, all of which are distinct advantages for my clients.

NOTABLE HIGHLIGHTS

Whew, where to begin? This whole trip features one highlight after another! Our main focus and emphasis is on the wildlife, so we spend the vast majority of our time undertaking multi-day game drives through the national parks of Kafue (most notably Nanzhila Plains and Busanga Plains), South Luangwa and Lower Zambezi. That is not to detract from the adventurous off-road driving we embark on, nor the varied and spectacular environments through which we travel, all of which are interspersed by regular good-humoured interactions with the locals - honestly the nicest, kindest and most engaging in all of Southern Africa. The wildlife is truly something to behold, with the animals' sizes being bigger and their numbers being greater than elsewhere. Listing all of the different species we experienced would easily exceed 100 so I will not, but those worth mentioning include Wild Dog, Spotted Hyena, Cheetah, Leopard, Lion, Elephant, Buffalo, Hippo, Giraffe, Crocodile, Roan Antelope, Sable Antelope, Puku, Lechwe, Oribi, Zebra, Bushbuck, Hartebeest, Kudu, Warthog, Mongoose, Waterbuck, plus inumerable giant birds of prey and assorted reptiles. The game-viewing boat cruise on the Zambezi is a highlight, as is the visit to Mosi-oa-Tunya / Vic Falls. Zambia is not a budget destination and the camps we use are not cheap, but wow you won't find better appointed camping.
